Oscar-winning music maestro A.R. Rahman and his wife Saira have announced their decision to part ways after nearly three decades of marriage. The couple made the announcement through their lawyer, Vandana Shah and Associates, releasing a statement detailing their separation.

“After 29 years of marriage, Mr. A.R. Rahman and Mrs. Saira have mutually decided to separate,” the statement read. It acknowledged the emotional challenges that led to this decision, describing the relationship strain as “an insurmountable gap” that they feel unable to bridge.

Their lawyer conveyed the couple’s sentiments, emphasizing that the decision stems from “immense emotional pain and turmoil.” Despite their enduring affection for one another, the separation marks a deeply personal and challenging chapter in their lives.

The family has requested privacy and understanding from the public as they navigate this difficult transition.

In a heartfelt post on X (formerly Twitter), Rahman shared his emotions regarding the end of their journey together. “We hoped to celebrate our thirtieth anniversary, but life had different plans. Even the divine throne may tremble at the heartbreak we carry. In this breaking, we seek meaning, though the pieces may never fit together again. Thank you for respecting our privacy and for the compassion shown during this fragile moment.”

Rahman and Saira, who tied the knot in 1995, are parents to three children—Khatija, Raheema, and Ameen. Their son, Ameen, also took to Instagram Stories, urging people to respect the family’s privacy during this time.

This announcement marks a poignant moment for the iconic composer and his family, as they embark on separate paths while seeking solace and understanding.
